The “China-Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges — 2026 Poverty Alleviation Challenge” completed its preliminary round in June, and the final rounds were held in Brazil from 12–14 August and in Chile from 17–19 August (local time). This year marked the first participation of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) as a co-organizing institution. A total of 30 teams led by PUCP students took part in the competition, while 17 faculty members served as volunteer mentors. PUCP students, as members of the transnational teams RAÍCES, SINO-LATAM Streamline, and AMURTA, won the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards, respectively, demonstrating the university’s strong commitment to interdisciplinary education and international collaboration.
On 27 August, PUCP published a report highlighting the achievements of these three award-winning teams and further outlining the real-world challenges addressed by their projects. The RAÍCES team focused on community economic transformation in Peru’s Apurímac region, exploring how improvements in the wild mushroom value chain could reduce community dependence on mining activities. SINO-LATAM Streamline addressed challenges faced by artisanal fishers in Manaus, Brazil, including access to cold-chain infrastructure, environmental monitoring, and market information. Meanwhile, AMURTA sought to strengthen the digital marketing and business management capabilities of artisans in Huaytará, Peru. The report also noted that the award-winning students will travel to China in January 2027 for an academic exchange program, where they will continue refining their projects with their international teammates, further advancing the outcomes of transnational co-creation and laying the groundwork for future implementation.
