Editor’s Note:
The “China-Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges — 2026 Poverty Alleviation Challenge” was jointly launched by Tsinghua University and partner universities in Brazil, Chile, and Peru. Through transnational youth collaboration and the integrated “Learning-Competition-Research” model, the program aims to build a multi-stakeholder dialogue network linking government, industry, academia, and research institutions, while promoting mutual learning between China and Latin America in the field of poverty alleviation. The 2026 edition attracted 666 young participants from 88 universities and institutions across the four countries, forming 119 teams. Following preliminary-round evaluations in all four national tracks, 12 teams advanced to the finals held in Brazil and Chile.
On 26 August, CGTN Português released the second episode of its video series Jóvens Unidos por um Mundo sem Pobreza (“Youth Joining Hands to Build a Poverty-Free World”), focusing on the Brazil Final of the Poverty Alleviation Challenge. Through footage of project preparation, presentations, and final evaluations, the report highlights how transnational teams connected professional expertise with local poverty alleviation needs in areas such as artificial intelligence and community-based economic development. While documenting the achievements of the award-winning teams RAÍCES, Farol, and The Amazonians, the report places particular emphasis on the process of cross-border collaboration and the practical value of the proposed solutions. It showcases how young people from China and Latin America respond to real-world challenges through knowledge-sharing, co-creation, and innovative approaches to poverty alleviation.
