From 17 to 19 August 2026 (local time), the Chile Final of the “China-Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges — 2026 Poverty Alleviation Challenge” was held in Santiago, jointly organized by Tsinghua University, the Universidad de Chile, and other Chinese and Latin American partner universities. Six transnational teams participated in field visits, mentoring sessions, and final project presentations, focusing on themes such as renewable energy, agricultural innovation, industrial upgrading, digital empowerment, and social equity. Through sustained cross-cultural collaboration, the teams continued refining practical solutions aimed at addressing real poverty alleviation challenges.
On 25 August, the Universidad de Chile, one of the organizing institutions, published a report reviewing the achievements of its students in this year’s Challenge and highlighting the experiences of two award-winning transnational teams. The Aqua-Terra Nexus team, composed of Chinese and Chilean students including Quynh Anh Vu, Sara Rodríguez, and Manuel Barrios, won the Gold Award with a project focused on the valorization and reutilization of fisheries waste. Meanwhile, Alan Kulka, a member of the Nexo Pacífico team, contributed to the design of an artificial-intelligence teaching assistant solution for educators; the team was awarded the Silver Award. Drawing on project descriptions and testimonials from participating students and faculty members, the report demonstrates how the Poverty Alleviation Challenge connects young people from different countries and academic backgrounds through transnational teamwork and engagement with real-world social issues. In doing so, the program helps participants strengthen their ability to address practical development challenges while enhancing their global competence through mutual learning and intercultural exchange.
