Dr. Lei Shao is a distinguished academic focusing on the living environments of vulnerable groups, with expertise spanning housing policy, urban planning, universal design, and accessible environment construction. He has led and participated in numerous scientific research projects, consulting engagements, and engineering design practices.
His academic and social affiliations include serving as a council member of the Architects Branch of the Architectural Society of China and an executive council member of the China Disability Research Society.
In 2016, Dr. Shao was a key founder of the Institute for Accessibility Development at Tsinghua University, a university-level research institution. The Institute conducts interdisciplinary and cross-domain research on human settlements and technological innovation for inclusive development, addressing the needs of persons with disabilities, older adults, and children.Under his leadership, the Institute was honored as a "National Advanced Collective for Assisting Persons with Disabilities" in 2019 and received the "Rehabilitation International Centennial Award for Outstanding Contribution" in 2023.
