Dear Alumni and Friends from All Sectors,The global challenge of poverty alleviation is in urgent need of wisdom and innovation! In 2024, we witnessed the China-Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges — Poverty Alleviation Challenge spark a fervent wave of poverty alleviation dialogue led by Chinese and Latin American youth in China, Brazil and Chile. Witnessed by the mutual visits of national leaders and international summits, it has become a landmark project for the win-win development of China and Latin America. In 2025, the challenge expanded to four countries: China, Brazil, Chile and Peru, attracting the participation of over 310 teachers and students from 27 universities and enterprises, and receiving support from embassies of China and multiple Latin American countries as well as renowned enterprises.

Poverty alleviation is a common challenge for developing countries and the entire world. In 2024, Tsinghua University, together with universities in Latin America, launched the China-Latin American Youth Responding to Global Challenges —— Poverty Alleviation Challenge, sparking a wave of university-led poverty alleviation dialogues between China and Latin America. In November of the same year, during President Xi Jinping’s visit to Brazil for the G20 Summit, Qiu Yong, Party Secretary of Tsinghua University, and the President of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in Brazil jointly signed a university cooperation agreement on the "China-Latin American Youth Responding to Global Challenges" program. This agreement was included in the outcomes of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Brazil, becoming a landmark project led by Tsinghua University to advance win-win development between China and Latin America.

"Exploring Latin America and the Caribbean Countries" is an interdisciplinary course co-created by Professor Chen Taotao from the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, together with distinguished professors from universities in Brazil, Chile, Peru, Mexico and other Latin American countries. First launched in the spring semester of 2023, the course will welcome its 4th session in 2026 and has gradually evolved into a flagship program at Tsinghua University for Latin American studies and global competence development. Inviting renowned experts and scholars from political, academic and practical circles in China and Latin America, the course addresses diverse topics spanning politics, economy, society and culture in Latin America through thematic lectures, helping students build a comprehensive cognitive framework for the region.
