On June 30, 2020 (Beijing time), Tsinghua alumni from Latin America gathered online under the organization of the Center. They interacted with the Center and shared the perspective about the future. It was the first Tsinghua Latin American Alumni meeting organized by the Center, with a total of 13 alumni participants from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico and other Latin American countries.

At the meeting, Professor Taotao Chen, director of the Center, gave a comprehensive and in-depth introduction to the alumni in terms of the Center's establishment background, the mission of the Center, its organizational structure, its development strategy and principal work.
She mentioned that at the Center’s inauguration ceremony in Santiago, Chile, on 6thDecember 2018, President Qiu Yong of Tsinghua University especially emphasized that the Latin America Center will serve to promote cultural exchanges between young students from China and Latin American countries, strengthen Tsinghua’s connections with the alumni in Latin America and assist the alumni to play an important role and contribute to the local economic development.
“The Covid-19 makes difficult face-to-face communication, but today we make a precious and meaningful opportunity to gather online in this special period. It allows our alumni from various countries in Latin America to get together, without regional restrictions, to know each other. It is a good start for us to strengthen contacts and cooperation for the future”, said Prof. Chen.
The alumni congratulated the establishment and development of the Center. They provided suggestions for the future development of the Center based on their experience. They also expressed that as Tsinghua alumni, they are very willing to work with the Center to promote the understanding and cooperation between China and Latin America.
