On the afternoon of December 11, 2025, Peru time, a delegation led by Professor Chen Taotao, Director of the Tsinghua University Latin America Center, visited the Las Bambas mine (operated by Minera Las Bambas S.A.) in Peru and held discussions with Mirko Chang, the Land Access Manager of the mine. The talks involved in-depth exchanges on core issues such as mining development and community relations. Participants from Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management included Postdoctoral Researcher Rong Yu and PhD candidates Feng Jian and Qiao Ziyi.
During the meeting, drawing on his years of professional experience with multiple multinational resource companies, Mirko Chang shared his practical insights on community relations and land access. He also introduced the related work of establishing and operating the land access department after joining Minera Las Bambas S.A.. Based on extensive frontline experience, he emphasized that companies must develop a deep understanding of the history and culture of the communities, not just their current state, to establish genuine dialogue and a shared vision.
Professor Chen Taotao highly commended Manager Mirko Chang's profound professional expertise and expressed hope that he would apply it in his work at Las Bambas (Minera Las Bambas S.A.). Both parties focused on discussing the importance and implementation conditions for establishing a sustainable tripartite dialogue and conflict resolution mechanism involving the government, the enterprise, and the community.
Both parties agreed that this dialogue provided an important perspective for a profound understanding of Peru's mining ecosystem and development challenges. They agreed to maintain communication in the future to continue deepening discussions on related topics.
