Tsinghua University Latin America Center and Monterrey Institute of Technology (Technologico de Monterrey) held a meeting via video on June 15, discussing topics on many issues such as online education, student exchanges, cultivating global competence, and technology transfer.

Zhang Li, Principal Manager of Global Partnerships, Office of International Affairs, Tsinghua University, first gave a speech. She briefly introduced the global strategy and international cooperation of Tsinghua University. She said that Tsinghua University is willing to seek further cooperation with Monterrey Institute of Technology, which reveals a promising future based on the fact that the two parties have signed memorandum of understanding on cooperation and university-level student exchange agreement.
Patricia Mora, Director of Hub TEC China (Technology Transfer and Spin-offs), Monterrey Institute of Technology, focused on introducing the Hub TEC China’s active partnership with the Chinese government, universities and enterprises, which has been boosting China-Mexico technological cooperation, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She extended the hope to carry out more exchanges and cooperation with Tsinghua University.
Chen Taotao, Director of Tsinghua University Latin America Center, made an introduction about the Center. She stated that the two universities have been maintaining great cooperative partners for a long time. “The year 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Mexico. We are willing to work together with Monterrey Institute of Technology in organizing the celebrating activities, and in further developing the academic relationship between our two universities. We also hope to create and offer more exchange and cooperation opportunities for teachers and students of both sides, and establish contact in more fields to explore possibilities of carrying out more cooperation”, Chen Taotao said.
Wang Xiaoxiao, Director of Online Education Center of Tsinghua University and Secretary General of Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance and Maribell Reyes Millán, Digital Education Director of Monterrey Institute of Technology, introduced their departments respectively. They also explored the possible cooperation and orientation in online education, including promoting exchanges and experience sharing in online education, discussing how to improve online education through technical means, and MOOC. Both sides were looking forward to holding a specific meeting for in-depth and detailed discussion on cooperation in online education.
The two parties exchanged ideas on how to promote students' global competence and how to enrich their experiences through international cooperation. Liao Ying, Director of the Center for Global Competence Development, Tsinghua University, believes that the interaction between students is very important. She suggested hold themed dialogues between students of the two sides from a perspective of culture, disciplinary development or global growth. The topics can cover a wide range of digital economy, climate change, artificial intelligence, public health, and hunger eradication. According to Sun Fu, Director of Office of Graduate Studies, Graduate School, Tsinghua University, in order to enrich students' international experiences and cultivate their global vision, Tsinghua University encourages students to participate in international exchanges, conferences and academic visits. Tsinghua University has also established cooperative partnership with various overseas universities around the world, setting up over 50 dual degree programs and attracting both Chinese and foreign students. Alejandra Molina, Associate Dean Digital and Postgraduate School of Monterrey Institute of Technology and Jaime Mora Vargas, Associate Director Postgraduate School of Engineering of Technology, introduced the postgraduate cultivation mode at Monterrey Institute of Technology, while putting forward suggestions on how to carry out joint training, joint teaching, and short-term exchanges between the two universities.
As for technology transfer, Li Taohong, Assistant President of Coway International Tech Trans gave a brief introduction of the company. At present, Tsinghua University Latin America Center is launching joint studies on technology transfer mechanism and exploring to build an ecological system of technology transfer with universities as the core. Such joint research partners include Coway International Tech Trans, Tsinghua University’s Office of Technology Transfer, XIN Center, PBC School of Finance, and foreign universities such as Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Adolfo Ibáñez University of Chile and Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
After the speeches, the guests also compared notes on cooperation in student and research exchanges.
