Project Description:
In 2021, Tsinghua University and Catholic University of Chile, together with other Latin American institutions, launched a bilateral technology exchange initiative. To complement this effort and further deepen China–Latin America cooperation, the Tsinghua Latin America Center and the Tsinghua Office of Technology Transfer jointly applied to the Tsinghua University Humanities and Social Sciences Division for a research project under the Tsinghua University Independent Research Program, titled “Mechanisms of International Technology Transfer by Research Universities: The Case of Tsinghua University’s Cooperation with Latin American Countries.”
Drawing on extensive literature reviews and empirical research, this project actively explores and establishes a theoretical model for international technology transfer by research universities, conducts comparative case studies across multiple domestic and international contexts, and is committed to advancing the implementation of innovative technology transfer mechanisms from Tsinghua University to Chile and other Latin American countries. The project seeks to articulate the story of international technology transfer by research universities at both the theoretical and practical levels.
The project was approved in November 2021. Led by Professor Chen Taotao, Director of the Tsinghua Latin America Center, together with a team of PhD candidates, the research is being carried out in collaboration with the Tsinghua Office of Technology Transfer, the Tsinghua XIN Center, and partner institutions in Latin America, including Catholic University of Chile and the China Center at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
