Initiated by Tsinghua University, the “China-Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges — 2026 Poverty Alleviation Challenge” aims to build a platform for transnational collaboration, knowledge exchange, and practical innovation for Chinese and Latin American youth. The 2026 competition attracted 666 participants from 88 universities and institutions in China, Brazil, Chile, and Peru, forming 119 teams; through the preliminary evaluation, 12 teams advanced to the final rounds in Brazil and Chile.

On August 14, 2026 (Brazil time), the Brazil Final project evaluation was held at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Six finalist teams conducted project presentations and defenses focused on poverty alleviation topics such as educational empowerment, community industries, circular economy, public health, agriculture, and infrastructure. Ultimately, team RAÍCES, a multinational China-Peru team composed of students from Tsinghua University and Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), won the Gold Medal. On August 18, 13 media outlets, including China Weekly, China.com, Sohu, iFeng, MSN News, and Tencent News, published the article “Brazil Station Final of the ‘2026 Poverty Alleviation Challenge’ Successfully Held”.
