On the afternoon of November 28, local time in Peru, Professor Chen Taotao, Director of the Latin America Center at Tsinghua University, visited the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where she met with Ruben Tang, Adviser to the Vice President for Research-Relations between PUCP and Asian Academic Institutions.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on the recent APEC summit held in Peru, the opening of the Port of Chancay, and ways to strengthen cooperation between both institutions. Professor Chen pointed out that, thanks to the endeavor carried out by the Center, the School of Arquitecture of both universities have been actively implementing exchange programs since 2022, producing fruitful results that have laid a solid foundation for expanding collaboration into new areas.
She also highlighted that in 2024, the Center—together with the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil—launched the China–Latin America Youth Challenge to Alleviate Poverty. This initiative aims to encourage young people to address common global challenges, contribute to national poverty alleviation efforts, and improve overall well-being in their countries.
Additionally, she emphasized that the Memorandum of Understanding for the China–Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges—signed between Tsinghua University and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro—was included among the achievements of President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Brazil.
Ruben Tang welcomed Professor Chen and congratulated her on the achievements of this Challenge, and expressed his hope that both universities would further strengthen their collaboration in the future, creating additional opportunities for exchange and interaction among young talents from China and Peru.
