On November 25, 2024, at 8:00 PM Beijing time (9:00 AM Chile time), Tsinghua University’s Latin America Center, in collaboration with the Graduate Admissions Office and the Global Communications Office, successfully hosted the “Tsinghua University 2024 Latin America Admissions Webinar.” The event was held both in person at the Latin America Center’s Chile office and online via Tsinghua’s Facebook and X platforms, attracting over 21,800 viewers from across Latin America and the Caribbean. Pan Shuai, Senior Admissions Officer from the Graduate Admissions Office, moderated the session.

The event kicked off with introductory remarks from Professor Chen Taotao, Director of the Latin America Center, who was present alongside in-person attendees in Chile. Professor Chen reflected on the establishment of the Center and its significant milestones, encouraging students from Latin America to consider applying to Tsinghua University to immerse themselves in Chinese culture and pursue academic excellence. She highlighted the Center’s mission to cultivate global competence among Tsinghua students. Additionally, she drew attention to initiatives like the 2024 "China - Latin America Youth Challenge to Alleviate Poverty," which called on students from both regions to collaborate in addressing poverty and tackling sustainability challenges together.

During the webinar, representatives from 10 departments and schools, including the Department of Chemistry, the Department of Computer Science and Technology, the Department of Industrial Engineering, the Global Innovation Exchange Institute, the School of Education, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Social Sciences, the School of Vehicle and Mobility, the Shenzhen International Graduate School, and the Vanke School of Public Health, gave detailed presentations. They covered admission quotas, program highlights, curriculum structures, and scholarship opportunities.

This was Tsinghua University’s first-ever admissions event directed to the entire Latin American region, generating significant interest and enthusiasm. The webinar provided students in Latin America with an in-depth understanding of Tsinghua University and further strengthened educational ties between Tsinghua and the region.
