On the afternoon of September 25, 2024, Professor Emilio Minguez, President of the University of the Caribbean and a scientist from the Dominican Republic, visited Tsinghua University’s School of Safety Science and Engineering. He was welcomed by Associate Researcher Sun Zhanhui from the Institute of Public Safety Research and Dr. Huang Lida from the Department of Engineering Physics. This visit was coordinated by Tsinghua University’s Latin America Center.

Associate Researcher Sun Zhanhui warmly welcomed Professor Minguez, while Dr. Huang Lida provided an overview of the school’s development, scientific research facilities, and international exchange initiatives. President Minguez shared insights on the University of the Caribbean, and both sides engaged in a lively discussion on potential areas of research collaboration and future visits to the Dominican Republic.

Colleagues from the Tsinghua Latin America Center also attended the meeting.

The University of the Caribbean in the Dominican Republic is a private institution that has served as an important platform for cultural, educational, and academic exchange between China and the Dominican Republic since the establishment of diplomatic relations five years ago. Its Center for International Studies focuses on China-Latin America and China-Dominican relations, contributing to a greater understanding of China among various sectors in the Dominican Republic.
