Professors from Tsinghua University's School of Life Sciences and School of Medicine visit University of Chile

      A delegation of professors from Tsinghua University's School of Life Sciences and School of Medicine visited the University of Chile for communication and exchange with professors and researchers from the Faculty of Medicine on the morning of December 12, 2023, local time in Santiago.

      The opening speech was delivered by Ms. Margarita Ahumada, Director for the Office of International Affairs, Faculty of Medicine, University of Chile, who warmly welcomed the visiting delegation of professors from Tsinghua University. Following this, Prof. Chen Taotao, Director of Tsinghua University Latin America Center, expressed gratitude for the cordial reception extended by the University of Chile.

      In course of the exchange, Ms. Ahumada provided an introduction to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Chile, and Prof. Xi Qiaoran from Tsinghua University's School of Life Sciences as well as Prof. Shen Zhimin from the School of Medicine shared insights about their respective schools. In the subsequent phase of communication, participating faculty members from both universities presented their research areas and ongoing projects, establishing a favorable groundwork for potential collaboration in the future.

      Founded in 1843, the University of Chile is the oldest and most prestigious public university in Chile. Its founding principles focus on fostering democracy, scientific progress, and social mobility. With 14 faculties and 4 interdisciplinary research institutes, the University of Chile provides a wide range of academic offerings, including 66 undergraduate programs, 36 doctoral programs, 119 master's programs, and diverse specialized courses. Notable alumni of the University of Chile include two Nobel Prize recipients: poet Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral, as well as a remarkable count of 20 Chilean presidents.
