Professor Taotao Chen attended the exchange meeting

On June 21, 2019, a delegation consisting of Pan America Energy, a large Argentine energy company, the Argentine Institute of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and the presidents and vice presidents of five universities in Argentina visited Tsinghua. The 5 universities are: University of San Andrés, Torcuato Di Tella University, Technological Institute of Buenos Aires, National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco, and National University of Comahue. Ms. Hongyan Zhou from the International Office of Tsinghua University organized and presided over the exchange meeting and invited Professor Taotao Chen, Director of Tsinghua University Latin American Center to share her experience of cooperation with Latin American countries for many years.

Professor Chen made a presentation about the Center for China Latin American Management studies and Tsinghua University Latin America Center to the delegation.

"After years of work, we have now established good relations with governments and enterprises in Latin American countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Jamaica and other countries. In the future, we will focus on expanding cooperation in the best disciplines between TsinghuaUniversity and Latin American universities. We can jointly hold conferences or forums on topics of mutual interest and provide corresponding training in accordance with the economic development needs of Latin American countries", she said.

"More than ten years ago, professors and students of Tsinghua didn't know a lot about Latin America due to the long distance, but now It's different. There are now many Chinese companies investing in Latin American countries, and cooperation between universities is becoming more frequent", Professor Chen added. She believed that more ways of cooperation can be explored in the future, and mutual understanding is the basis of cooperation

Mr. Danny Massacese, COO Upstream of Pan American Energy, believed that only with excellent educational resources can it provide enterprises with excellent talents and promote their development. Pan American Energy focuses on the development in the oil and gas field in the future, and hopes to establish a strategic partnership with China. He emphasized that an enterprise's development is inseparable from the scientific and technological knowledge, and an important way for the source of knowledge is the international exchange like today.

Professor Juan José Cruces, the President of Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, shared his viewpoints about the situation of foreign companies such as Chinese companies investing in Argentina. He said, Argentine government has been working hard over the years to minimize the fiscal deficit so that the investment of foreign companies in Argentina is guaranteed. Besides, a relatively good system has been reached among the labor unions, companies and the government, helping to create a good investment environment for enterprises and employees, especially for the foreign companies investing locally.

Finally, Professor Chen responded to Prof. Juan José Cruces, "Today's exchange meeting is good news for Chinese companies. I hope that I can bring Chinese companies to learn from the argentine labor unions when I make my next trip to Argentina. I also hope that the colleges and universities of both countries can conduct further discussions on Chinese companies investing inArgentina to explore how do a better investment locally".
