2025 Poverty Alleviation Challenge: Study Tour in China for Latin American Teachers and Students

5th Latin American and Caribbean Ambassadors’ Dialogue at Tsinghua University

2026 Poverty Alleviation Challenge: Kick-off Presentation Meeting

Activities Insights:

As a freshman in the Foreign Languages Department, I was fortunate to participate in three activities successively: the language support for the study tour of the Peru team in the 2025 China - Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges —— Poverty Alleviation Challenge, the volunteer service for the 5th Latin American and Caribbean Ambassadors’ Dialogue at Tsinghua University, and the 2026 China - Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges Poverty Alleviation Challenge. These volunteer experiences at the Latin America Center not only enabled me to truly fulfill the original aspiration of my foreign - language major but also let me understand the significance of Chinese and Latin American youths walking hand in hand in the tide of international exchanges. Moreover, I've had the most genuine realization of the idea that "language is a bridge, and youth is a bond".

Foreign languages are not only the core confidence for me to participate in all these activities but also a crucial link in building a communication bridge between China and Latin America. During the study tour of the Peru team in the 2025 Poverty Alleviation Challenge, as a language - support volunteer, I was involved in the cross - border collaboration between Chinese and Latin American youths throughout the process. From assisting Chinese study - tour team members in communicating their research needs to local Peruvian youths, to translating poverty - alleviation practice cases and conveying the experiences and thoughts of both sides in the field of poverty alleviation, every oral communication made me deeply aware that foreign languages are never merely about literal translation but a carrier of cross - cultural understanding. Using the foreign languages I've learned, I accurately conveyed China's practical achievements and innovative methods in poverty alleviation to my Peruvian partners, making language a bridge to break down geographical barriers and promote the mutual learning of experiences. The broadening of my international perspective stems from every sincere interaction and collision. At the 5th Latin American and Caribbean Ambassadors’ Dialogue at Tsinghua University, as a volunteer, I closely felt the warmth and depth of China - Latin America diplomacy. During the event, watching ambassadors from various countries conduct in - depth discussions on China - Latin America cooperation, discussing the development needs and cooperation expectations of each country, I truly felt the broad prospects of China - Latin America relations and also deeply realized that I should embrace the world with a more open mind and participate in international exchanges more actively, increasing my knowledge and building consensus in cross - cultural interactions. This experience enabled me to break away from the limitations of the classroom and re - examine the value of foreign - language learning from an international perspective. It also made me understand that students in the Foreign Languages Department should not only be proficient in languages but also possess an international perspective and a sense of responsibility. And my participation in the 2026 China - Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges —— Poverty Alleviation Challenge reflects my determination to continue in - depth interaction with the Latin American region. I'm also looking forward to the precious experiences I'll gain in the future Poverty Alleviation Challenges.

From providing language support for the Peru team, to assisting as a volunteer at the 5th Latin American and Caribbean Ambassadors’ Dialogue at Tsinghua University, and then to participating deeply in the new - round Poverty Alleviation Challenge, this series of activities have enabled me to make a leap from classroom theory to practical application during my freshman year. It has also given me a deeper understanding of the significance of "foreign languages + international exchanges". At the same time, I would like to sincerely thank the Latin America Center of Tsinghua University for this precious platform. It provides every volunteer who is passionate about the development of China and Latin America with opportunities. Here, regardless of age or seniority, as long as one harbors an interest and love for the friendship and common development of China and Latin America, they can study to their heart's content, harvest growth, and use their own strength to contribute to China - Latin America exchanges through this platform. In the future, I also hope to continue participating in volunteer activities and further learn and grow in these activities.
