The “China-Latin America Youth Responding to Global Challenges—2026 Poverty Alleviation Challenge”, initiated by Tsinghua University, aims to promote mutual learning between China and Latin America in the field of poverty alleviation by fostering cross-border youth collaboration and integrating learning, competition, and research into a unified cultivation model. The program also seeks to build a multi-stakeholder dialogue network connecting government, industry, academia, and research institutions. The 2026 competition attracted 666 young participants from 88 universities and institutions across China, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and other countries. Together, they formed 119 teams, of which 96 were multinational teams. Following evaluations in the four national competition tracks, 12 teams advanced to the finals held in Brazil and Chile.

On August 19, 2026 (Chile time), the Chile Station Final project evaluation took place at Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH). The six finalist teams presented and defended their projects on topics including renewable energy, agricultural innovation, industrial upgrading, digital empowerment, and social equity. The Aqua Terra Nexus team, composed of young participants from China and Chile, won the Gold Award with its proposal for a community biorefinery model. Nexo Pacifico and Sino-Latam Streamline received Silver Awards, while Amurta, Hillink, and Smile Route were awarded Bronze Awards. Between August 27 and 28, a total of 79 media outlets, including China Development Network, China Economic News Network, China Reform Network, China Weekly, China.com, Phoenix News, Tencent News, and Sohu, published the article “2026 Poverty Alleviation Challenge | Chile Station Final Successfully Concludes, Aqua Terra Nexus Team Wins Gold Award”.
