Tsinghua University Latin America Center successfully held its first offline alumni gathering

Santiago, Chile - On April 14, Tsinghua Latin America Center held a presential alumni meeting at its office in Santiago, Chile. A total of seven alumni from Chile attended the event, while Professor Chen Taotao, Director of the Center, participated via videoconference. Through this event, the alumni gained a deeper understanding of the Tsinghua University Latin America Center and its development in recent years.


At the beginning of the event, Tzu Hsin Shen, senior advisor of the Center, who is also a Tsinghua alumnus, expressed his sincere welcome to the attendees. He gave a brief presentation of the background of the Center, reviewed the work in 2022, and introduced the key activities for 2023, inviting the alumni to actively contribute to the development of the Center and enhance the regional influence of Tsinghua.

Afterwards, Prof. Chen Taotao, Director of the Center, sent her cordial greetings via video conference and interacted one-on-one with each alumnus. During the free discussion session, the alumni and the team members of the Center shared their valuable study experiences in China and their career development after graduation from Tsinghua.

Speaking about the Tsinghua student delegation that will be visiting Chile in the upcoming Summer, alumni provided positive responses.

The event counted with the participation of Mr. Álvaro Etchegaray, supervisor of international programs in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Development of the University of Chile; Patricio Rivera, Manager of Projects at China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC)Chile Office; Nicolas Azócar, advisor at Atlantic Council Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center; Astrid Guzmán, a lawyer who just moved back to Chile from Shenzhen last September, and now holds the position at the Comptroller General of the Republic of Chile; Juan Pablo Qin, founder of LASO, associate at Carey, the largest law firm in Chile; and Martín Gonzalez, lawyer and partner in Gsyco Advisors.

The gathering was a great success, and the alumni shared the expectation that the Center will organize more activities in the future to strengthen the relationship among Tsinghua alumni, and to create an alumni network that will promote more Chileans and Latin-Americans to get closer to Tsinghua and learn more about China.
